Application for Inheritance Certificate
Information/Documents required
- Death certificate, extract of death certificate, Order of Court of presumption of death or Certificate of presumption of death, of the Deceased.
- For applications made using CorpPass and SYCPass, applicant’s Identification Card (IC) or valid passport.
- For foreign individuals applying using SYCPass, the identification document used in the application for SYC Pass AND the identification document showing relation to the deceased, if different
- Supporting documents showing relationship of the applicant beneficiary to the deceased. Where the applicant’s relationship to the deceased is “Legal Personal Representative of Beneficiary”, documents showing the legal personal representative’s lawful appointment by an Order of Court, or under any written law or legal instrument. A Statutory Declaration from the beneficiary consenting to the applicant making the application on behalf of the beneficiary may also be required.
- Details of the lawful potential beneficiaries (Full name and NRIC/ID No.)
- Document explaining any inconsistency in the information or other documents submitted in the application, for example, different spelling of a person’s name in different supporting documents. If you are unable to produce any documentary proof, you must submit an affirmed Statutory Declaration to confirm the information provided in your application.
- For law firms, a letter of authorisation showing that you are expressly instructed to make the application and the purpose for which the inheritance certificate is applied for.
- For MUIS, court or authority, a letter of authorisation showing that your officer is authorised to make the application.
- **Applications where ‘Executor/Administrator’ is selected as the applicant’s relationship to the deceased will not be approved unless the applicant provides relevant documents showing he/she is a person claiming to be a beneficiary to the deceased’s estate.
Process
You must submit your application online via the SYC Portal using SingPass (for individual applicants) or CorpPass (for law firms, MUIS, court or authority). If you are an individual who is a foreigner and do not have a SingPass, you may apply for SYCPass to make the application.
Your application will be processed within 7 days of each submission and is valid for 60 days. If your application is returned to you in the SYC Portal as “Incomplete” and with comments in the “Remarks” column, you are required to act on the task by editing and re-submitting your application in accordance with the comments within 7 days. All required steps and tasks must be completed within 60 days of the original submission date of the application. If you do not complete all requirements before the end of the 60-day validity period, your application will expire and you will need to submit a new application to obtain an Inheritance Certificate.
Once the supporting documents have been verified and your application is approved, you may download the Statutory Declaration ("SD") template from your dashboard in the SYC Portal, complete the required information in the SD, and affirm the SD before a Commissioner for Oaths. Thereafter, you must upload the affirmed SD in the SYC Portal for verification. You may refer to the sample SD here.
After the SD is verified, the Inheritance Certificate will be issued through the SYC Portal in downloadable PDF format upon payment must be made. Payment must be made at least 1 day before the end of the 60-day validity period of the application. If the Inheritance Certificate was issued after 23 July 2025, there is no time limit for you to download the Inheritance Certificate. Inheritance Certificates issued on or before 23 July 2025 are available for download for 14 days from the date of issues, after which they are no longer available for download.
